How do I start to get my name as a writer?
I just started to write within the last few months. I just finished my first story (and man does it feel good to finish a story), it is small, around 10k words. I realize that I am looking way to far into the future, but how does one start? how do I get my name out there? Any good creative writing magazines? How do I start? I feel kinda overwhelmed just thinking about it. And like I said, I'm not NEAR going to magazines or anything, that will be years from now-but I would still like to know if that is ok. What do you guys know? Can I get some advice?

I would suggest starting a blog. Maybe pick a subject related to what you like to write about and make weekly posts. Connect with people via Facebook, twitter, and Goodreads to attract followers. You could then share some of your writing and build a fan base.

If you don't think you have the time to commit to a blog, just getting on Goodreads.com, and connecting with people in the groups and forums there can be a great way to meet other writers, book lovers, and bloggers; and talk about writing and books.
