Are my kid's names weird?
I am 13 and I will be 14 in June. I have my kid's names picked out and I don't want to ever change these names.
Girls:
Prudence Coraline Grace
Odette Leona Swan
Boys:
Derek Berkly Caleb
Sylvester Flynn Jonas
Yes, Odette and Derek are from the movie Swan Princess.
Each of the names have something to do with special memories. Prudence comes of the song "Dear Prudence" by the beatles which was my father's favorite songs. He died in a car accident 1 year ago. Coraline is my Grandma's Middle name. Grace is from the song Amazing Grace that was playing at my Dad' s funeral. Odette and Derek are from the movie Swan princess which my sister and I grew up watching. Leona is my mother's name. Swan is because of Swan Princess. Berkly is my Uncle's name which died in March. Caleb is my cousin's name that drowned when he was 3. Sylvester is my Dad's middle name. Flynn is his childhood nickname and Jonas was his name.
Throughout your helpful tips, I have changed the names a smudge.
Coraline Grace
Leona Odette
Sylvester Flynn
Derek Samuel
Are these any better?

Well, Derek is a cute name. I think Odette is okay as well.

But Prudence just reminds me of the word 'prudent' and I don't think your (future) kid would really appreciate being named that. Same goes for Sylvester. A little old-fashioned, if you ask me.

Hope this helped! Smile

No! I like your names. I'm 15 and I also have my kids' names picked out.

Prudence Coraline Grace is very pretty. I love Prue as a nickname! I'm not a fan of two middle names but each to their own.

Odette Leona Swan is a little different, but there's nothing wrong with that. Odette is very classy and elegant, and the rest of the name reflects that.

Derek Berkly Caleb is not one of my favourites, simply because I don't like Derek or Berkly that much. Caleb is gorgeous, though!

Sylvester Flynn Jonas is very strong and handsome. Sylvester is a great name, Flynn is also nice and Jonas seems to fit. I prefer Jonah, but still, I like this name.

I hope I helped! Smile

Don't worry, you'll grow up and regain your sanity. People who name their children after characters or cartoons are showing great immaturity.

As a child, its understandable that you would pick those names but as you grow up, I'm pretty sure the name ideas will fade and you would come up with something less.... lets say childish. I noticed your names are mostly from Disney Channel movies and THATS FINE because you are only 13. The names seem like they were born in the early 1900s. Hopefully you are not thinking about getting pregnant for another 10-15 years. Your mind will develop more maturally then you will be looking back at this post asking yourself, "What was I thinking????" If not, good luck to you and your children.

You will most likely change your mind when you are older. Although, you might still want those names. Your husband will want to have a say, and you will have to pick names you both like since they are both of your children. My husband and I spent a lot of time picking names we both like. Typically, the last name of your children will be your husband's last name as well.

Yeah they are all weird besides Derek, but if they mean something to you then it doesn't matter at least they aren't common and boring however personally I would of hated to be call something like that and plus people could take the mic of them at school but still up to you x

Thank the good Lord above that you are 13 because you will, most positively, change your mind on names between now and when you need them.

That does not make you indecisive; it makes you a normal teen.
The human brain does not have complete frontal lobe connections until we are in our mid-twenties.
Before that time, the brain doesn't handle the concept of outcome or consequences very well.
This is what leads teen-moms to horrible names like Dagger Maverick and Hashtag Jameson.

When you are ready to contemplate names, please keep the child's welfare in mind as the priority.
Giving a tryndy, cutesy-poo, or completely weird name might satisfy your urge to be kr8tive but it condemns your child to a lifetime of hassles and I doubt that a loving parent would really want that for his/her child.

So, here's a critique of your choices.
They're not all bad but they need work.

3 names is generally pointless especially if you intend to honor someone.
There is no room on standardized form for the 3rd name, so it is almost always forgotten by anyone except immediate family.
I suggest trimming the names down to 2.

Girls:
Prudence Coraline Grace
...Prudence combined with Coraline is rather too much but the 2-3 flow is good.
...I like the sound of Coraline Prudence better.
...I wouldn't use Prudence Grace because using two Virtue names sounds preachy/churchy
...Coraline Grace otoh is lovely, balanced, provides great nns and will age well.

Odette Leona Swan
...Swan is just plain silly as an addition to the name
...the only Odette I ever knew was nicknamed "odor-eater" after the foot product. She now goes by her middle name Celine because of the bullying.
...Odette is a nn for Oda or Odilia and both of them would be subject to the same crude jokes
...Leona Odette, tho, has a better flow, good nns, and will age very well

Boys:
Derek Berkly Caleb
...Derek is a classic name with a good nn and will age well...nice choice as a first name
...Berkly is badly misspelled; the most common and accepted spelling is Berkeley and, for those who find 3 "E"s to be to much, the usual alternate is Berkley. I suggest one of these spellings.
...So, the flow of Derek Berkley is really good and, overall, the name sounds quite distinguished
...Caleb is the oddball here; it doesn't flow with the other 2 names and sounds too harsh.
...Derek Caleb is harsh-sounding with the "K" sounds running together
...Caleb Berkley has the same problems with th "B"s running into each other
...so Derek Berkley is the best choice

Sylvester Flynn Jonas
...Sylvester is a traditional name that suffers horrible nns in today's world: Silly or Sylvester the Cat and his lisp
...Flynn works fine as a middle name rather than as a first name because of the nickname thing. Flynn-ee just sounds ridiculous and I can't think of another nn
...Jonas is rather uncommon but not weird
...Jonas Flynn is a strong, totally masculine name that will age well.

Again, this isn't meant as a slam.
At 13, I hope you have many, many years of fun in trying out name combinations.
Just remember, the child's well-being should come first.
