Facebook Fan Check app is a virus?

Someone just messaged me on facebook telling me that the fan check was a virus that takes 48 hours to kick in, and to delete the app asap and to remove my tags from other friends. I looked online and have gotten mixed messages, saying that it was just a rumor that it is not, and others saying it was, just to be safe I erased it all and took it off my face book, I added it yesterday and it said it takes 48 hours to mess up your computer, does anyone know if this rumor has any truth to it?

i heard the same thing. now whenever you try to open it, it says that its unavailiable due to third party issues or something
