Should I apply for TANF?
Before everyone jumps on my back about how I will be a burden on society, hear me out. Combined, we pay over $10000 a year in taxes. I do not need to hear how I will be a burden on society because we lost our jobs.
My husband and I both got laid off within the same month. We both worked at different hospitals. Well, our savings have run out and we had to move back in with my parents. We have applied everywhere we can, even fast food places. We are not picky and we would both love if we got hired anywhere. Well, the job market where we live is terrible. We have gone to all sorts of staffing agencies and have looked within a 100 mile radius of my parents house. I have a daughter with my ex. He did some bad stuff to she and I, and we don't have anything to do with him except they started allowing supervised visitation and child support. I get about $150/month if I'm lucky. I have another daughter with my current husband. So that makes 4 of us. My parents are requiring us to split the bills and pay for our own food and such, but we can't afford to do that. If I apply for TANF, do you think I will get it? Just to hold us over until one of us gets hired? My parents only income is their Social Security. I live in Texas. Please, any advice would be a blessing. Thank you.

I know I may sound like a mooch, but I'm not... I just want to be able to keep a roof over my daughter's head's. If we don't pay for our part of the bills, they said they will have us kicked out in a heartbeat. I just need something to get us by until one of us gets a job...

You can try, but I don't think you'll get any TANF. You get more for child support than it would pay you, since you are not supporting yourself without a husband. You probably would qualify for food stamps, though. Just make sure you can prove you are a completely separate household than your parents. And who knows? They may be able to find something for one of you to work at.

Have you tried the temporary services like ADIA and others? They don't just do secretarial, they do warehouse, grocery clerks, etc. Best of luck!
