are teachers allowed to make fake profiles on facebook?
in our school's and surrounding school's network of Facebook, there has been a lot of fake profiles adding people at these schools, and me, Facebook friend requests. the profiles say they attend out school, but the pictures are always of girls we don't know. so we conclude that they dont go to our schools. so some girls mom is the principle and she said her mom was doing it (well THE GIRL did not say her mom was, its just a rumor). in the last 6 months there have been about 20 of these "fake" profiles we think are teachers disquised so they can look what we post, the pictures we are in(if we are drinking/smoking weed. etc...) so is this legal for teachers to do this? because firsthand I have known teachers that i wanted to add but they said it is illegal to add us until we graduate....so can someone clarify?

thanks for answering! feedback is greatly appreciated!!

According to facebook policy, no one is allowed to have a fake profile on facebook. Also, if you're in california (and maybe some other states, but CA for sure), impersonating someone else online is a crime.

That's so damn shady! Pretty sure that is illegal. In a contract or something. Wow. Defintely take that to the district, the board or the police. Whatever works.

Then take them off your friend list if you are suspicious. No one ever said you had to accept a friend request.

For all you know it could be parents spying on you.

Those profiles could belong to anyone. The primary rule on facebook is do not add anyone...no matter who they say they are or know...unless you know them personally and in your real life, not just online life (and yes, there is a difference!). Even if these people say that they belong to your school or are a relative or friend of one of your friends, say no and block them.

And yes, teachers are allowed to friend you and if you admit to any criminal activity, you could get in trouble with both the school and the law. If you are dumb enough to do something stupid (smoke or use drugs, drink alcohol, have underage sex), don't let any pictures be taken of it and do not admit to it publicly...not even to any of your so-called friends. And that is because what are "today's friends" are possibly "tomorrow's enemies". And what they don't know about you and your personal life can't be spread all over the internet. Good luck and God bless.
