How do I stop unnecessary Facebook notification emails?

Ever since I switched to Timeline, I've been getting the most random email notifications concerning my friends on Facebook. I've gotten emails that say "so and so updated their status" or "so and so added a photo" etc... It's practically like I'm getting my Facebook feed in my email inbox. And it's very random; it's not like the posts/updates/photos have anything to do with me or are tagged with me in them. I checked the notifications page to see if there was some box I needed to uncheck, but I didn't really see one that says "receive friend updates in my inbox." Is this happening to anyone else? Do you know of a solution?

I closed my Facebook account and still receive these types of emails. I just marked them as spam and now they go to my junk/spam folder.
