Of course they should be allowed to refuse to serve women.

By the same token however, they should also be allowed to refuse to serve men.

It is neither sexist nor discriminatory. Any bar can pander to any particular group. If this were not true then there wouldn't be such a thing as a 'gay' bar or a 'singles' bar, there would just be bars.

You could, if you wished, create a bar that only served women 31-35 who owned Dalmatians and drove green ford escorts. You'd probably go out of business, but you could do it.

Should pubs be allowed to refuse to serve women? Pubs (or any other business) can refuse service to anyone right now. Any business that wants to remain in business though is very careful about applying that rule however.

I heard of a restaurant that, if your child(ren) start crying/screaming or generally getting out of hand, they will come and pack up your food to go. No questions asked, no second chances. There is another that I've personally been to that has a sign up that says flat out, no children under 12. Period. And that if your kids get out of hand even once you're already out the door.

I think that if you had just asked the first part of your question, and not asked if you can enjoy a pint with a "load of twittering women" then you'd be getting more reasonable answers (and not just commentary by women who like to drink and smash men with bar stools). Personally I enjoy the company of women and currently I can not conceive of a situation where I would prefer to not have any women about. Almost all places I can think of would be better off for the inclusion of women.

You could just buy a pint glass and drink at home if it annoys you that much.

I'd rather overhear a crowd of twittering women than the foul mouthed yob males meeting in my local pub. Also the women are better company socially, I can smile at them without every one present thinking I'm odd. (Can't use the Q word)

You have to laugh when women respond to questions like these with tales of their violence and hard drinking. When I was a young boy many pubs were still separated and women were only allowed in the public bar, the saloon and games rooms were for men. I don't want to go back to that, but there's no denying it was less like a chicken coop, even non-sexist men need a break once in a while

Isn't the whole point of going to the tavern to get away from the wife?

Yes, unless it is a singles bar - then women should not be allowed unless they are dancing for dollars..................

Any privately-owned business should be allowed to refuse service to whomever they choose.

Pubs should be allowed to serve whomever they wish personally....

Of course, reality being what it is... it would get shut down....

I like how the typical female shaming is showing in some of the answers... if you dont want women around, you are gay... acts of violence (barstool smackdown).... I know I am impressed...

Ever think that men, just like women, would prefer to be with their own sex? maybe just once in a while? Is that such a bad thing? Pretty sad to see so many women acting like this... I wonder if they would use the same logic with a female only place.... Oh wait, they already exist....

Maybe this is a good business idea for you to look into. Women want to have an environment where they can just go out and have a few with their girls just as men do. Perhaps you can open a chain of bars that are male or female only. Men don't have to worry about what their wives are up to on girls night out and vice versa.

No...

And just because they keep shooting you down when you stagger up to them and slur out an obscene suggestion that you (at the time) think is a slick invitation is no reason to exclude them.

My only suggestion is that if you want to drink in peace without any women bothering you - since you're obviously single - drink at home! The plus being that it's CHEAPER, since your $5 pint will only cost you $2!
