How important is it to you that a business be involved in Social Media (ie: Facebook, Twitter, etc)?

I am considering going to a conference about Social Media and Business and it's kinda costly so I want to see how important social media is in business and if it will be worth the money to go. Thanks in advance!!

Social media is important but that doesn't mean that you have to attend expensive seminars to get the practical insights. I used to work in this field myself and most conferences ended up being glorified networking meets that could have been arranged online for a fraction of the cost.

Overall, I got more value from attending free webinars online from people in the industry who I contacted through forums, chats and similar references. Only attend conferences if you know that the speakers or participants are from well-known companies and/or have significant, current knowledge of SEO/SEM practices.
