If not, that's the first step. Get some books or a good website to get your basics and vocabulary down, and then try beginning to immerse yourself by watching or listening to Japanese media (no subs, but then afterwards go back and watch with subs if you need it). The most important part is to be social with it! Make friends to practice with, and find people who you can ask questions.
