When will the social conservatives stop destroying the Republican party? - Hob - 01-29-2013 09:18 AM

I think the majority of people in the country support the free market and capitalism and gun rights and several of the things conservatives stand for. What people are sick of is the social conservative wing that wants to impose their values on everyone else through the federal government through things like opposing gay marriage and the effort to ban pornography and things like this.

Man, if the Republicans had simply said that they didn't oppose gay marriage then Romney would probably be president.
@TrueConservative: They have the right to express their views. But not to impose their views on people through the federal government.

Social conservatives are the only reason the party still exist. Protecting rights granted by our creator is not anyone " imposing " their values on anyone. It's fulfilling the job government was created to do.

I know. You liberals are not big fans of that pesky constitution. Which is why you're so often found making the case for the constitution being a " living document " So you can change it to suit your every perverted urge.

When will the Radical Liberals (Environmentalist and Socialists) stop destroying the Democratic Party?

2/3 of state governors are republican.
2/3 of state legislatures are republican.
The House of Representatives is republican.

How exactly are republicans being destroyed?

You're stuck with them until rational republicans start standing up to the radical anti-freedom right wingers.

As long as the GOVT cheese and checks flow and he gives them abortion, contraceptive on demand, legalized gay marriage, and "free" healthcare, Libs, esp. on here, couldn't care less what Obama does to the economy and the Country

I agree with you to a point, but there are many more reasons he lost.

While I don't agree with social conservatives views, they have a right to express their opinions like everyone else.

This is the beginning of the end for social conservatism. It's still strong with people over 65 but those under 30 reject it. Once these old people die off, that will be the end of it. There was a time when segregationists were strong in this country but now they have lost political power. The social conservatives are next.

You hit the nail on the head, but it is a conundrum for the republicans. Remember those who are truly benefited by republican policies are very few. They need the religious right to capture enough votes to hold office. If they were to jettison the assault on personal freedoms, they would lose much of the church vote, and without that church vote, they would never have a chance at winning elections. They severely alienate the masses with their social positions, but those that are not alienated are profoundly loyal. In order for them to remain relevant without the bible thumpers, they would need to create a new group of followers that can be duped to vote against their best interests, and that will not be easy to find.
