When will the social conservatives stop destroying the Republican party?
I think the majority of people in the country support the free market and capitalism and gun rights and several of the things conservatives stand for. What people are sick of is the social conservative wing that wants to impose their values on everyone else through the federal government through things like opposing gay marriage and the effort to ban pornography and things like this.

Man, if the Republicans had simply said that they didn't oppose gay marriage then Romney would probably be president.
@TrueConservative: They have the right to express their views. But not to impose their views on people through the federal government.

Social conservatives are the only reason the party still exist. Protecting rights granted by our creator is not anyone " imposing " their values on anyone. It's fulfilling the job government was created to do.

I know. You liberals are not big fans of that pesky constitution. Which is why you're so often found making the case for the constitution being a " living document " So you can change it to suit your every perverted urge.

You're stuck with them until rational republicans start standing up to the radical anti-freedom right wingers.

I agree with you to a point, but there are many more reasons he lost.

This is the beginning of the end for social conservatism. It's still strong with people over 65 but those under 30 reject it. Once these old people die off, that will be the end of it. There was a time when segregationists were strong in this country but now they have lost political power. The social conservatives are next.

You hit the nail on the head, but it is a conundrum for the republicans. Remember those who are truly benefited by republican policies are very few. They need the religious right to capture enough votes to hold office. If they were to jettison the assault on personal freedoms, they would lose much of the church vote, and without that church vote, they would never have a chance at winning elections. They severely alienate the masses with their social positions, but those that are not alienated are profoundly loyal. In order for them to remain relevant without the bible thumpers, they would need to create a new group of followers that can be duped to vote against their best interests, and that will not be easy to find.

Republicans would be wise to start embracing keeping the federal government out of peoples' lives. Nutjobs like Rick Santorum are the reason Republicans are waning in popularity, not fiscal conservatism.

The only way the Republican Party is going to survive and stay relevant in US politics is for them to unite under a moderate and rational leader (a good example might be Governor Christie) and then BOOT the tea baggers (like McConnel and Bachmann and Cantor) OUT of the party, as well as all other extremists.

Then they need to tell Grover Norquist to go to hell.

Then they have a chance of staying relevant and not ending up in the dust bin of history, along with the Whigs and the Tories.

(good luck with that -- my guess is that it's too late to get the teabaggers out -- just like the Social Democrats were unable to get the Nazi's out of their party back in 1932)

You don't understand. God All Mighty Jesus has been a loyal friend and father to us. Anti Christians will never understand this but our Messiah doesn't fade away with time. As a matter of fact he gets stronger in us. So we follow his commands the best we can. Any Christian with the smallest drop of wisdom knows "abortion" is an ABSOLUTE Satanic act. Now you "liberals" can kick and scream all you want for your "right" to murder your baby inside you or your wife but we will die defending that innocent baby. We also will never accept the satanic lust of homosexuality in front of our children. What you do behind closed doors is between that room and Jesus to judge. Doesn't affect me at all. But as soon as my princess has to see to women together it's now an issue. And if I have a son and the little prince has to see two men together, its now an issue. You liberals are the blind leading the blind on a mountain top. You will fall, with a devastating fall.
