This may sound stupid, but can a HP computer and a GATEWAY computer share an internet connection.?
If the answer is yes, how would i share an internet connection?

It's the operating systems that you would need to configure to allow sharing, if they are worlds apart, but simply put, yes they can

If you have a DSL or Cable modem, you need a router and connect both the computers to the router and the router to the modem.
If its a dial up connection...connect the two computers by ethernet and enable internet connection sharing in the computer with the telephone line. |

Of course they can. All you need is a simple hub, network cables with RJ45 connectors and IP addresses for each system and you are on.
Or if you intend to have a server, implement DHCP by inserting an NIC in the computer configure your IP Address properties and connect a cable from the NIC to the hub/switch and cables from the hub/switch to the 2 systems. Double click on the network connection icon on your notification area (assuming your are using WinXP) from the dialogue, click Propertes => internet protocol (TCP/IP) => properties; click "Obtain IP Address automatically" and also "Obtain DNS server address automatically" =>OK => OK => close. This should help I believe. |
