The three sentences in your first paragraph ("I'm sorry for your loss....You and your family are in my prayers.") are completely appropriate...and enough to let her know your concern and sorrow for her.
I have problems with this being sent as a Tweet since it's seemingly such a personal message, not one for the Twitter world to see.
