is it true that FDR's socialist programs extended the Great Depression by 10 years?

yes, it is. he actually ordered the slaughter of 10 million pigs, 1000's of acres of crops were destroyed, and many were left to rot on the fields, all to increase the price of food. and people credit him with helping poor people. sorry folks, but higher food prices and food shortages make poor people starve and farmers rich.

to those who say that free market policies caused the great depression, you are very confused. the federal reserve system was created in 1913, 15 years before the start of the great depression. this artificially inflated the supply of money, money that was no longer backed by gold, money that was backed by nothing. this boosted confidence and messed up the economy and caused massive inflation. if it werent for the government intervention in the economy we would have never had a great depression. it amazes me so many people believe whatever the government schools teach them. sorry guys but government isnt impartial, government schools teach that government is good and needed, when it isnt.

to realst1- if you think republicans and fox news support laisez faire economics and free markets id like to know what you are smoking. a republican president hasnt espoused these beliefs in years. nor has any american president (and very few politicians) for the past 100 years, exactly why we are in the mess we are in right now. the only parties who want free markets are third parties like the libertarian party and the constitution party. just because a lot of people believe something doesnt mean its true.

lurker- how can you say free markets caused the depression when the federal reserve act of 1913 eliminated the gold standard and set up a system of private banks to print money backed by nothing to artificially inflate the supply of money without ever being audited? that sounds like government force and manipulation to me, not free markets. please stop believing everything you have heard. and then you go and blame the problems from oil, and the car companies on free markets today, when you even yourself said you believed FDR's policies of regulation ended the problems of free markets during the great depression... well which is it? how could you possible consider high taxes on corporations, regulations and red tape forced onto businesses, money taken in taxes from governments used to fund competition for these same businesses, embargos on some nations, and tax breaks on others, to be free market...??? are you insane? free market means NO government involvement, not heavy government involvement... as to your comment "The first experiment in "Laissez Faire" was when Louis XVI degregulated the Grain Markets in France. Within six months, a loaf of bread cost more than a workman's daily wage. The resulting food riots eventually grew into the French Revolution." - do you really think every industry in every nation throughout history was heavily regulated by the government until this one act...? and you tell us we need to learn history? also, you are confused, you say that free markets depend on trust, when they actually depend on voluntary transactions. regulated economies are the ones that rely on trust. they tell the people to trust what the government is doing and dont worry about it, to trust their one size fits all policy that is going to forced upon everyone. sorry but local means and ends or production can determine the price of a product better than a central bureaucracy.
