Why do teenage girls try so hard to look sexy?

We live in a patriarchal world where girls and women are judged by their appearance more so than males.
From an early age girls are taught that their value is based on what they look like, young impressionable teenage girls tend to do what popular media and society tells them to.
They learn from an early age to shave their legs because look around you! Do most women walk around with shorts or skirts with hairy legs? I think not!
So how do we break this pattern? That's for us to figure out because girls are not feeling any better in today's society and the pressure to fit into some ideal is a reality.
I learned all of this at age 12 but I realize most are not as lucky as i am.
At 22 I now realize i have been brainwashed all my life.
