i want to become a singer...how?

I'm 14 and i absolutely LOVE to sing. However, my family dislikes anything having to do with music. I never wanted to be anything other than a singer. I've tried Youtube, but it hasn't been working for me. I wanted to enter school talent shows and such, but my parents forbid me. A lot of people who have heard me say i'm great. I have the confidence and dedication, but as time passes and i keep having reality thrown into my face, i'm becoming less and less confident. I need help in achieving this... it's not a dream, it's what i plan for my own future, and i will do whatever it takes. This hasn't changed and it never will. Tips, advice, anything that can help me inch closer to becoming a singer.
