How do you get noticed as a movie director/writer/author?

Make up your mind - do you want to be a writer or a director? Both involve telling stories, but beyond that, they're very different and need almost completely different sets of skills.

You're not going to get noticed as a director or writer if you haven't produced something that's worth noticing. There's nothing wrong with having big dreams, but if you expect them to come true, you have to put in the work to make that happen.

If you want to write or direct because you want to be famous and have people tell you how fabulous you are, that's probably the wrong reason. Most people who write don't earn enough from it for it to be their sole source of income. Ask yourself, "If no one except my mum and my best friend ever reads or watches what I do, would I still want to do it?" If the answer is "no", you might want to find another dream career.
