Yes.. ofcourse you can ask you readers to follow you on twitter.
Actually, that's a very good marketing technique..
Just add a twitter badge to your wordpress blog linking to your twitter page.. I added it to my blogger blog a couple of days ago.. and already there are about 20 followers Smile
There are some other tools aswell which will improve your presence in twitter..
