Computer not booting up (Windows 7)?

The recovery process is rough on a hard drive - you may need a new hard drive. Do you have the recovery image on optical disks or just on the original hard drive?

If you can get to the internet and burn a CD, there is a cloning process that can be done from a CD to transfer everything to a new hard drive - Clonezilla is what I have written on my copy (20gb hard drive in ten year old laptop no longer large enough to install updates to - much less any new files of any kind).
