For what you want.. both devices are pretty much the same...

Kindle Fire HD does have advantages like:
- Digital dolby audio
- Dual wifi antenna for better speed
- HDMI out
- Xray for movies
- Amazon content and services

Advantages for Nexus 7
- Quadcore processor
- 4.1 Jelly bean OS
- GPS (For Kindle Fire HD its only available in 4G LTE version)
- NFC support
