What you described, is they are inactive and have likely stopped using facebook for personal reasons and moved onto other social networks, or they barely post, but mainly communicate via chat or private messaging. I know quite a few people who just use it to communicate instead, taking advantage of the video chat feature.

However, if you were blocked, you wouldn't find those people, ever, unless you either had a second facebook account, or logged out and searched them up, or entered their profile URL and visited it.
