I tend to treat pretty carefully as far as trusting anyone that claims to be in the military when you've only "met" them online. It's so easy to fake this stuff unless you really know what to look for. If you're confused about what base he may be stationed at in Tampa Bay, why don't you ask him? There is an Air Force Base there......MacDill AFB and it's possible that he could be there, I suppose. And we have about 180 military personnel in Nigeria.

But, both of those facts don't mean much. Anyone could just Google them and find out that information and add it to their story.

Pictures can prove things but they can also be fake or taken/stolen from someone else's account.

Has he given you an email address? Is it a military address or just a "regular" account?

He should be able to receive calls if he lives in barracks.....so that's a small red flag to me. The fact that he tells you he can only chat with you on his captain's office doesn't make much sense either. Where is the captain all of this time? And why isn't your guy doing work during the day?

Have you spoken to him on the phone? If he hasn't given you a phone number for himself.......he would have one even in Nigeria (if that's true that he's there)......so that's another red flag if he hasn't provided one.

How about a mailing address? Tell him you want to send him a care package and need his mailing address. That's a pretty easy thing to tell when it's faked.

Just remember......expect the best, but plan for the worst when it comes to building a relationship/friendship with someone online. Go slowly and carefully with him and don't provide him with a bunch of private information about you until you're sure who this guy is.
