I'm planning for the bulk of my retirement to come from my 401K and personal savings instead of social security. You should too.

You diversify your retirement investments through fixed interest, bonds, US stock market, international stocks. That reduces risk and gives you a higher gain than you will get from Social Security.

If the stock market collapses the economy is dead and no amount of social security will help you.
