Strange letters & symbols on some websites instead of the ones that should be there - Google Chrome/Windows 8?

It might be that the site is using a non standard font (only Arial or Times New Roman are acceptable) on the website or the computer isn't reading the code correctly.
Using IE right click on the website & from the menu choose encoding, change the setting to auto & see if it makes any difference to those pages.
I don't use Chrome but it will have a similar setting I would assume.
