Can social media cause distress?

I'm doing a abstract project on the topic 'Distress' and i'm thinking of linking this to the social media since we need to have direct observation and personal experience

what i'm asking is does linking these 2 (distress + social media) make sense to you? And can social media cause distress to an individual?

i just hope to get some personal responses from other people to get different perspectives on this
