Sometimes teens just want advice from people they don't know, so it is more impartial. For example, if they posted a question about the fact that their older brother hit them after they ate his chocolate and what to do about it on Y!A, they would probably get answers from both adults and teens who don't know them or their brother. They could then use the advice they were given and try and sort it themselves and nobody else would know about it. However, if they wrote about that incident on Facebook or Twitter, the brother may start getting a bad reputation for hitting his little sister. Or it may have an opposite effect and the brother may end up even angrier than he was before because the sister told everybody and the siblings may end up in a bigger fight than they already were.
That's all entirely theoretical of course, but there are probably many cases that fit that kind of situation. However it does irritate me when people simply come on here for a rant. That's not the purpose of a Q&A website. |
