The smoke most likely passes through the ventilation system of your home. The garage is simply a separate room in your home. Also, I bet you can really smell the smoke on your husband after he has a cigarette, because non-smokers can smell it right away. I used to be a smoker and now I realize how strong the smoke smell can get. It's definitely not healthy.
