You have a door from the house to the garage, there are cracks and other small
areas where the smoke can permeate into the house. If the garage is also attached to the attic and heats the garage any at all, then the smoke is being sucked up and transferred into the house in the air vents. He needs to go completely out of the house and garage in order for it to not come in. I would imagine that he isn't going to listen to anything you say anyhow.
