Some tips.
-Get high quality links from high traffic websites that are relevant to your topic
-Index your links - Ping or social bookmark them
-Vary everything - keywords, URL, profiles, etc.
-Create a viral giveaway and place your URL or brand there.. then distribute everywhere
-Improve your website's on page SEO
-Do some market and keyword research (important)
-Do some competition research (know what others are doing and replicate or outperform)
-Most important: Provide Value to your visitors
