Have you checked your site for WAII and WAIII standards? Is it valid HTML & CSS?
It's definately worth completing SEO tasks. A lot of sites, like Google for example actually determine their search indexes using PageRank - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank - where basically the more sites you have linking to your site, the higher up the tables it goes!
Also as you mentioned your site went live last night, Google et al can take up to 2 weeks to spider through your site. If there are no other sites linking to yours it can take even longer! Get your site out there on other sites asap!
