Have you downloaded the facebook app from the market place yet? It has notifications on it. Once you get it set up it will put a notice in your notification bar when you receive a message or a poke. Also, when you are working on messaging, open up the settings and there you will see how you can set your phone to notify you when you receive a new text. I would suggest getting CHOMPSMS or Handscent for your texting because it make it chatstyle (similar to iPhone). Also get SMSpop up to get a large popup message when you get a text.
