Why are those little hashtags in sheet music?

honey, you're embarrassing our generation.
The "hashtag" (actually a "sharp") means to play the note you would normally play one half-step above it.(usually the black key--for a piano) since there were three "hashtags" every time your friend sees an F, C, or a G, she will play an F#, C#, or G# unless otherwise instructed |
