It is very easy to advertise yourself on facebook. The main reason most people outsource advertising is to help build a product brand.

If you take the time to figure out a complete marketing plan and have a good product to sell you could make back all the money you lost.

The link i sourced answers a lot of the questions you may have without having to purchase the product.

I am not surprised that facebook doesn't care, after all they did not offer the service... Live and learn.
