If I look at someone's twitter, do they know?

Sometimes, every now and then I read tweets that this girl tweets. I know her, but I didn't want to follow her, cause my twitter is private and I feel like I want to keep it to myself. I didn't give no one her twitter, I'm just following someone that she's following's twitter and they're following me back, but that person has thousands of followers. The thing is today or yesterday she requested to follow me! I am sooo embarrassed. How did she find me? Thanks! Btw, I am not a stalker, I just like what she tweets sometimes in a while like once a month or sometimes longer than that. She's a friend, but we're not too close too. I feel like she is requesting me because she knows I am like checking her page, aha. I didn't retweet or favorite anything from her either. Thanks!
