If you can only get one, I would recommend Ambitions, because it adds ALOT to the game. I've had it since it came out, and I still haven't tried all the new career and skill options that come with it. Generations is also good, but in my opinion it doesn't add as much to the gameplay as Ambitions.

It also depends what you like to do in the game, though. If you like your sims to work on their careers and you want to be able to play them while they're at work, go for Ambitions. But, if you prefer to have big families and focus on your sim's home life, go for Generations.
