Should employers be allowed to check on social networking sites before hiring you?

It's not illegal, but I don't think they should. As long as I'm doing my job well, what I do in my private life is none of their business. This is one of many reasons my accounts don't have my name attached to them. All names are made up, and you'd have to know me and specific details about my interests to even have a prayer of getting them. If you search my real name, I think you come up with a letter to the editor and a genealogy site.
