No, Microsoft has its own Protection Installed and you can check this via your Control Panel - System & Security - Windows Firewall. However Security soft-wear like McAfee or Norton is a better alternative which will give you a Site Adviser and Family Protection which allows you to block websites which contain unsuitable material e.g. adult, freeware etc.

Keep well away from Security sites which people recommend you 'download' for free' as they do not work and will give you problems i.e. allow access to your computer through the 'back-door' and you will not realise it.
