What shall I do please?
Hello guys.
Just so you know, this won't be some kind of a story about me wanting me to be popular or wanting a guy or anything like that. No.
I'm 14 years old. I'll quickly give you some background info, I'm not very popular (I don't really care - people are still nice to me and I do have some amazing friends so yeah I'm fine). I'm not English therefore I do have a tiny accent but it's quite small and everyone in my school is used to it. I'm in year 10. Ok I don't think that there's anything else you need to know.
There's this girl who has her own Facebook page called 'Jamie's World' and she did become VERY popular. A few days ago she got 8 million followers which is amazing! I decided to watch some of her youtube videos and then I fount this video where she was on an interview and her friends were there and they were just telling everyone how it all started. She started all the facebook page thing 1 year ago, and she just started posting funny pictures; then decided to post videos. People always put comments such as 'Omg you make my day' etc. She is 16 now I think. I think she wants to be an actress in the future or something like that.
Well, I'm not really sure what my problem is.. It's just that.. Argh., I can't even explain it. Jamie just got so famous for being herself and trying to make other people happy. I've seen so many people become so popular over Facebook/youtube just by doing something random or something they like at the start and becoming so famous. on the interviews so many famous people say that they just wanted to do it so they did. And they succeeded.
My problem is that I don't even know what I want to do in the future. (I know that I'm 14) but next year I'm going to be in year 11. Then it's sixth form, A levels, what then?
I don't even know what my talents are, and if there's something I like, I don't even share it with anyone. I'm the kind of person who never does anything new even if I really want to, I always think that in the end I will fail. And if there is something I want to do in the future, I think it's impossible. I remember how I always wanted to be an actress, I would still love to do that but I don't find it easy. And to become an actress you have to be at the right place at the right time. And I'm also not English therefore there isn't a big chance of me becoming an actress. I had drama in year 9 and I was one of the best people but still. My mum always says that it's just a dream and I shouldn't want to be an actress.. But what else? I find science boring, I'm bad at drawing or singing, quite good at dancing but I just don't know what to do with my future, So many people started by doing small things and became so big. But I don't know what do I do and where do I start. (if this makes a difference, my options were I.T. computers and design , because you need it in almost every job, business and French because france is next to england and im quite good at languages - i don't want to be a translator or anything like that!) Your advice doesn't have to be something to do with the internet, Jamie was just and example.Smile
Soooo yeah.
I know this is long guys, but someone help me...Sad(( Thanks anyway.

I'm impressed and really happy you're only 14 and already thinking about these. It's never too early to start. Plenty of people I meet are already in their twenties, have accumulated a nice debt for university fees (they're expensive) and still have no idea why they're doing what they're doing.

I don't know you personally, so I can't say anything specific, but research and think. Google stuff like "How to choose a university major", or "list of careers and their descriptions". I can say there're probably millions of things you can do out there you probably don't even know exist.

You'll come across many websites with tips like "review your interests" or "think about what makes you excited". Some of these tips may be useful to you, others may not, but as you research and read you'll slowly learn more about the world, about your options, and about yourself.

In the place I come from, almost everybody believes in this single path: study hard, get a good degree, get a well-paying job, get married, have children, and then retire. You don't have to follow this - in fact, there're so many possibilities out there, you shouldn't stick to this plan at all. But since you don't know where you want to go yet, you can just continue on this road while you explore other possibilities.

*Study hard so you aren't limited by your grades. There are many weird and fun professions that require really good grades.

Main point: do your research, and spend some time thinking about this everyday, but don't be too worried. It's normal to just play by ear and do what seems best every time you need to make a decision. Let me give you a few examples:

Friend #1: Physics and finance enthusiast. Considered majoring in business, physics or law, or to drop out to concentrate on piano while teaching piano. Ended up majoring in business, worked as a freelance writer while studying. Upon graduation, thought about taking masters/phd in business or philosophy, but now working as an accountant after graduating.

Friend #2: Majored in engineering (diploma). After graduating, instead of working, concentrated on practicing piano while teaching piano. Now enrolled in a piano school, aiming to get a masters degree in piano.

Friend #3: Majored in science (degree), went on to be a tuition teacher, then manager of a tuition centre. Quit his job to study piano, and taught piano for a few years. Quit his job again, and now bakes cakes and pastries. Oh this guy sounds old, he is old. 30+++. Well, still plenty of time for yet another career switch.

Friend #4: Majored in tourism (diploma). Went on to study a degree in economics. Now working in a business development role while studying, but still unsure of where to go after graduating.

Friend #5: Majored in maths and economics (degree), went on to become an insurance broker she didn't even know existed until she saw an advertisement.

So you see, it's perfectly normal not to be able to find "something for you". Even if it seems like you did, you may change your mind a few years later, if not 10-20 years later. Even if it seem like others found what they liked, those may change too. The famous people who say they only had one possible path in life are the extreme minority.

I've written a long post with no concrete suggestions and advice but i hope it helps. In summary:

1) Study hard so you get more options when the time comes. Also, smart people are attractive hahaha
2) Continue thinking and researching about the world, possible careers and your potential interests.
3) Don't worry too much as long as you're doing the above 2 properly.

Good luck!

Hey Diano Smile My mum says the same... Remember how you wanted to work in a hair salon? haha xxx You do do French and you used to study Spanish which already widens your chances to a lot. You do have to try your hardest in science and maybe you'll be as good as me and anno ;D Then you might have a chance to become a doctor or something.. It will benefit you in many ways Wink ... (No ya soglasna, nauka uzhasno skuchnaja ) Wink

Just try to remember why you chose those GCSE's and you could ask me or anna in school to help ya... Your friends will always be able to support you Wink

BTW we could go to the office any time just to talk to a teacher Smile Just ask ;D + add me on bbm!!

P.S. Winter Revole has some good advice and I think (s)he deserves the 10 points.. But dude, we're 14, of course we'll be thinkin about our future! We're so close to being done with this school shit! Nothing to be impressed by... Geezz.. (Po moemu on/ona podliza ;p)
