"We also support the exploration of alternative ways to deliver health care. Moving toward alternatives, including those provided by the private sector, is a natural development of our health care system."

- Stephen Harper, Toronto Star, October 2002.

"It's past time the feds scrapped the Canada Health Act."

- Stephen Harper, then Vice-President of the National Citizens Coalition, 1997.

"What we clearly need is experimentation with market reforms and private delivery options [in health care]."

- Stephen Harper, then President of the NCC, 2001.

Canada does not have a president. It has a Prime Minister.

We have a Prime Minister. Unlike the President, the Prime Minister has no official powers. He is not mentioned in the constitution.

Canada has 4 centre left or left major parties. There is 1 right wing party. So even though 60% voted for left parties, they vote was split up by them.

LOL If Obama is a social democrat then Reagan must have been 1 too, cause Reagan is further left than Obama in a lot of ways. obama will never consider straight out raising taxes while Reagan done so over and over.

because Canada is farther down the road to socialism than we are and have decided it's not such a smooth ride.. they have already gone through actual socialism for around 25 years and experienced the fiscal and social failure in their own lives, and their citizens have just recently voted conservatives back into power.

hopefully, the USA is on an accelerated path back to conservativism. i am of the opinion that is was a WONDERFUL thing that we ended up with Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid (two ultra left power hungry crazies without a clue) leading a completely Dem/Lib Congress, and, just to put the cherry on that sundae, got saddled with crazy clueless Obama.

American (70% leaning conservative, fiscally and socially) got a front row look at what a Leftist/Progressive/Socialist nation looks like - a veritable pig-sty, with the pigs squealing and snorfling at the trough in a mindless scarfing of the American economy.

If McCain (uber-RINO) had been elected, this process would have been much slower, as McCain's declaration of himself as a Republican would disguise his Liberal/Progressive policies.

Stephen Harper called for his election before Obama was elected, and that's how he got into office. I dont know why Canada should not have a conservative Prime Minister like Harper. They still believe in universal health care.

We dont have a Social Democratic party in the U.S. I dont know why you label him that way.
