If we would have done that when McCain first wanted it would be insolvent already. This is a BAD idea pushed by Wall St.

Absolutely not, and for the very reason you cite. Government must guarantee certain trusts, and SS was perfectly conceived, once upon a time. We cannot privatize it. An acquaintance has lost tens of thousand of dollars in his 401K in the past 6 months.

Yes. Name me one single program the US government has done with excellence.
Medicare? Social security? FEMA? FannieMae? FreddieMac?

Gee! Let's give those people our health care to run too!

You cannot trust Wall street with your money, they wil run it to the ground while Ceos walk away with millions in salaries and bonuses. We have learned our lessons the hard way.Imagine what would have happened if W had his way, SS would have lost well over a trillion dollars leaving baby boomers desperate and broke therefore creating an additional crisis. The democrats shot it down.

Hell no. We've privatized the airlines, how many times have the taxpayer bailed them out?
We've privatized Power and Electric, how much did Enron lose that caused hard working americans to lose there pensions and retirement?
