Hp laptop hard disk short dst failed?
My laptop stuck on black screen when I turn it on, the hard disk test said the hard disk dst failed. Is the hard disk broken or software problem? What should I do?

Good Evening Christopher,

I'm sorry to hear you are having hard drive issues, these are normally the most frustrating problems to have. The first, and most important, piece of advise is to immediately unplug the drive and stop trying to turn it on or use it in any way. The more times you turn it on the worse the problem is likely to get.

You have a few options available to you:
1 - You can attempt to repair the issue yourself, which is a relatively complicated process. You basically need to physically replace the old bad Hard Drive with a new drive. You can use this software to boot into a temporary Operating System and attempt to clone your old hard drive onto your new drive. This last step may or may not work completely depending on the extent of the damage to your hard drive.
You can download this software for free to attempt the Clone process http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live.php

The other option is to take this to a trained professional in your area. There are many nuances and advanced tricks that are often necessary to complete this process.

Please also keep in mind, at this point there is a 50/50 chance this will work. Your hard drive may very well be too damaged for this to work.

Personally, I would take it to a professional that already has software and hardware at hand, as well as experience in the process.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or need any clarification.

Thank you and good luck,
