Yes. On Twitter no. Well they do still see it if they check their emails but it does delete both sides on Twitter.
On Facebook, yeah it stays.

yes, facebook works like email, once you send a private message, deleting the conversation only deletes your copy of the conversation - not even deleting your account will prevent them from getting the message
