How do you judge whether an online person is "real" or not; share your stories?

Judging whether a person is real or not online is a very difficult process. People are willing to go extremely far. I have heard real life stories of 40 year old men pretending to be teenage girls and fooling actual teenage girls, to the point where they try to meet them. For example a teenage girl once wanted to meet another "teenage girl" who she had spoken to online. This "teenage girl" happened to be a man in his forties who was caught and found out by the police
You can usually judge by:
-How much they persist on meeting you (the more they persist, the more suspicious it is)-that includes asking for details such as address etc.
-Wanting to meet you in a private or secluded place (inside your house, a quiet street, a secluded beach), rather than a popular public place (large train stations, airports, popular shopping centres etc.)
-Suspicious behaviour (for example, if a "teenage girl" states that "her" parents purchased an airline ticket in order to meet you

They can easily learn to act like teenage girls and manipulate you into believing that they are

If you are talking about online shopping, social media, online banking etc. When you go to login, instead of "http://www.example.com" you should see "https://www.example.com" although the "s" will only appear when you try to log in and/or make a transaction. The "s" means that it is a secure website, and only highly credited websites have to pay and apply and have to be accepted in order to get the "s" next to its name. Before buying something online look for "https" in the URL before logging in and/or making a transaction
