Why does my high school disable the internet?
So my high school is being ubreasonable, they block the internet!
There are a few sites on the internet that are open (school website, dictionary.com, and a couple others) But youtube, facebook, twitter, tumblr, are all blocked. Any website that has any communication is blocked. Anything that has images is blocked. They even block SNAPCHAT! Idk how they do it, but if you try to snapchat on the schools wifi it wont let you. Also they track everything you do on the school wifi. Every website, seach, everything. Why do they do it? Why is it the schools concern what we do on OUR phones/ipads/laptops!?!? It our stuff, we should be able to use them how we want! And i feel watched whever i use the internet, abd i feek unconfirtabe! I want pivacy! We are going to get on facebook abd twitter at home, so why does the school not let us?!?! Ads |

Because its their connection. If students are using up bandwidth for Facebook, Youtube, whatever, it slows it down for EVERONE. Plus its not productive

Oddly enough, kids have managed to survive school for hundreds of years without internet access. The reasons they block it are numerous. Most obviously, they want you to pay attention and learn It's hard to teach when half the kids ae secretly checking Facebook every 5 minutes. Further, they don't want to tie up bandwidth. If kids are watching videos and streaming music, it's going to slow down the internet for purposes that actually involve learning.
What you do at home isn't the school's concern, which is why you can do what you want. |

You did say that it's on Their wifi network? Just because they allow you access to the network doesn't mean they have to allow access to the entire Internet. They have every right to restrict what happens on their network. Do you ever go to a coffee shop where there might be a screen where you gave to check 'I agree' before continuing? Do you know what you are agreeing to?

If you think that is unreasonable most businesses also monitor your use of computers, in most instances they don't block the sites but they can fire you for misuse of their computers and you can't use your devices on their network.
