If he made a threat, yes he should be fired. Making threats is illegal and cops should be held to a high standard when it comes to breaking the law, even higher than in other employment situations.

If he called the President a "Muslim Commie," that isn't a threat but the police department might want to give him an IQ or physiological test, because he might be stupid or crazy.
