apps for using my iphone while in peru?

just got an iphone through Verizon, i'm going to be in peru for a few months. i know i can turn off the phone part and just use it for wifi, but will my apps still work (like facebook & twitter) and send me notifications? and is there an app like textfree or something i can use to text peoples cell phones back in the states for free? i realize this would only be while i'm in a wifi zone.

Unless you have an internet connection, any app requiring one, WILL NOT WORK. So yes, apps like Facebook, Twitter etc will not work. You should have gotten an Android device like the Galaxy Nexus instead. Far more advanced than iPhone.

You can factory-unlock the phone and use the SIM of their carriers in your phone. You've to cut into microSIM but that will get the job done. Of course, you can do whatever you want if you've wifi access which is scarce in Peru unlike US. If you need to get the phone factory-unlocked, mail me to arghyle@rocketmail.com
