My friend's friend hates me?

At first I thought the guy was just an online persona but apparently my friend knows him offline. My friend made a Facebook status to the extent of 'I wish I could be instantly successful in life", and his friend commented "That's called fast forward slavery". I asked him "How is that slavery?" Because I thought he'd clarify what he meant. He insisted that I stop talking to him because 'he was too knowledgeable for me to speak to him' (his words). I asked him what his beef was but gave up when he just kept getting more abrasive with me.

Earlier today my friend posted something to the extent of "You think you're so smart, but you've got a long way to go" and I asked if it had to do with the other guy. He then posted the guy's real name (thus linking him to the comments on that post) at which point he (the other guy) insisted my friend not bother to talk to me.

I sent a private message to my friend because I was curious if this was someone he knew outside of FB, or if it was an online persona. He told me that this guy had only just left his house with his gf. I expressed my surprise at it being a real person because he talked like someone from the shady side of the internet. My friend told me 'he just wants to free your mind", so I told him I understood the concept but I really didn't like the way he'd talked to me. At some point he told me "I'd rather take advice from him" so I told him that everybody does the whole 'enlightenment' thing differently so I don't care how you decide to go about it, but I won't get along with your friend.

Is this other person likely to become a problem in the future? I tried to let my friend know that we're still on good terms but I won't let this other guy talk down on me like he did again. I know this 'friend' from college and he was the one who initially showed an interest in me.

How do you care about the person you don't even know? Ignore him no mater how he hates you or not. About your friend, if you're interested in him, keep your friendship. If somehow he hurts you or doesn't want to hang out with you, so what? Let him go! However, you should consider yourself if you did or said something wrong that can hurt your friend. If you did, you would want to fix yourself.
