Do you think learning history is a waste of time?

II'm afraid Victoria has missed an important point - "Education" is NOT just the acquiring of information, but also UNDERSTANDING that information, which requires "question and answer", and DISCUSSION with tutors, and among students. . That is what the Universities used to provide. but now, with the vastly-increased numbers of students, this vital aspect has greatly diminished. The problem with "educational" computer /video games, and indeed with bocks, is that they are often played/read in isolation, and so the vital discussion element is missing. When I hear an interesting item on BBC News, or read it in a newspaper or magazine, I then want to TALK about it with other people !

Same. I played those games, I played Aoe3 for at least 2,000 hours.
Its important because it branches on all subjets--for example, if you know nothing of the enlightenment, you will not understand why the scientific revolution came about and why so many theories came out of it.

If you define its value solely by the amount of income it adds to your life then in many cases it might be considered a "waste of time".

If you define its value by how it makes you a better citizen, one that is able to make informed decisions about the future of your community, country and world, then it is INDISPENSABLE!
Knowing history gives context to events that are happening today and insight into cultures of the world.
