It depends if you signed a contract when you paid in advance.

Did he increase the rent for everyone? If so, no. But you are entitled to a refund if you should choose to move. If he's increasing your rent simply because you've demonstrated that you have excess cash reserves than he's breaking the law but you can't prove this. How much did he raise rents? Most states allow a maximum increase of around 4.5% per year (but that also compounds). If you think he's being dishonest ask him if he reports your you as a renter on his tax returns (and hopefully you paid with a check).
I suspect that its the fact that you paid in cash that makes him think you can afford higher rent. People today are broke. It's a liability to let it be known that you handle cash responsibly. |

Unless you have a long term lease why in the world would you pay two years in advance?
Did you get a discount for two years advance payment? What does you lease say about rent increases? Hope you got good receipts for your rent payments. |

Your land lord is a Leech If you have already paid 2 years rent on the Agreed rate and that you have a Receipt that he accepted it, "Just speak to a Lawyer to make sure" For This is the Reason Why you keep all Records and Receipts, Communications written and Recorded just in case they come back to Bite you
PS And if you don't want a Tonne of Paper work around then Scan the Documents onto your Computer and back them up on a USB so even if the Computer is Stolen you still have the USB |
