Good Luck with that!!! Try not paying any of your bills on time and watch the late fees pile up! Why should landlords expect anything different? They have bills too!

Agree, we already have this service in Australia and have for over 15 years. As well they fully check out references of persons who apply for share accommodation. If they have ever had a bad tenancy report by landlords, real estate offices or by previous tenants they have share accommodated from.

I'm very surprised they don't have this service in the United States, to get rid of the slumlords or bad tenants in your rental property's.

They even have one, to check out tenants from overseas.

You should email a few if these Bad List company's to see about how to start your own Black List business and be your own boss.

I can see why someone would want a list like this. However, resources already exist to serve this purpose. There are many websites out there which offer renters the opportunity to review their landlords.

For instance if you look at apartments.com there is a section to write a review. The same functionality exists on other sites.

I'm not sure that this type of review war is something the tenants or landlords, at large, want to get into. There are some slumlords out there, for sure. However, there are a good number "problem" tenants out there as well who would label their landlords as "slumlords" at the drop of a hat. There could be a ton of collateral damage.

I think it may also create a needlessly antagonistic relationship between tenants and landlords, more than perhaps already exists in some places.

Also, it must also be pointed out that in many states landlords have almost no rights with regard to how they handle rents. In MA for instance, tenants are under no legal obligation to pay rent, only a moral obligation and it is almost impossible to evict anyone.

Also in response to another answer given that slum lording is capitalism. That is just plain wrong. If that were true all landlords would be slumlords by default which they are not. To assume that one has anything to do with the other by rule is a logical fallacy

In the end while on the surface the creation of such a list by some government agency o other "official channel" may sound like a good idea, but it would be ripe for abuses by the very parties it is meant to protect. Resources already in the private sector to find reviews. Also using your own better judgement is a good place to start.

The best answer to give is: If you don't like your landlord, move.
